3/26/2013, M.Martischang, US Forest Service - Eastern Region In the subdirectory ..\thumbnails are saved 67 low-quality JPEG image files that were created by opening the original high-quality JPEG2000 image files in Irfanview and using "Save as..." (with "save quality" set at "10"... near the "low" end of the quality spectrum) to save them as ~75% smaller, simple JPEG files. These smaller, low-quality thumbnail images have the same root-name as their *.jp2 source file and were primarily created for ease of inclusion as thumbnail images on the "Description" tab (i.e., basic metadata) for each JPEG2000 image, as populated via ArcCatalog. Image resolution held up well, however, color exhibits noticeable degradation. These simple, lower-quality JPEG images **SHOULD BE AVOIDED** for printing or plotting to media any larger than ~2"x3"... the "low" quality setting of the JPEG caused rendering of the aged, sepiatone map collar to shift to light-pinks and originally bright Cession polygon colors to appear "faded".
